Creating a campaign

A campaign is the unit you actually create and launch in Soreto — it bundles your reward structure, your schedule, and your widget copy and images into one referral program that runs on your store. You create and edit campaigns through the same two-step wizard: Campaign Setup, then Creative & Launch. This article walks through both steps in full.

Step 1: Campaign Setup

Campaign Setup is where you define what the campaign is, when it runs, and what it rewards.

  • Campaign name and company name. The campaign name is for your own reference inside the app — it's how you'll identify the campaign in your campaigns list. Company name is a required field on this step, though the company name that actually appears anywhere customer-facing is pulled from your Shopify store's own name, not from this field — so it's fine to fill it in accurately, but don't rely on it to change what customers see.
  • Website domain. Soreto uses your website domain to detect the affiliate network associated with your store, which matters for how referral tracking is set up behind the scenes. In most cases this is filled in for you, but it's worth double-checking it matches your actual storefront domain.
  • Campaign schedule. Every campaign has a start date and an optional end date. You can pick an end date directly, use one of the quick-pick shortcuts (30, 60, or 90 days from the start date), or choose "Forever" if you don't want the campaign to end automatically. Scheduling has enough nuance around overlapping campaigns that it gets its own article — see Campaign Schedule and "Forever" for the full detail.
  • Reward structure. You configure a referrer reward and a friend reward separately. Each one has a discount percentage and a discount code setup that determines how the actual Shopify discount code is generated and applied. This is a deep topic in its own right — see Setting Up Rewards (/help/shopify/setting-up-rewards/) for how the reward types and discount code options work.

Soreto tracks how many required fields on this step are still incomplete, and shows it as an indicator like "3 of 8 required fields complete." You can't advance to Creative & Launch until that count reaches zero — it's a straightforward way to know whether you've missed something before you move on.

Step 2: Creative & Launch

Once Campaign Setup is complete, Creative & Launch is where you write the copy, choose colours, set images, and — when everything is ready — launch the campaign.

Widget copy. You write a title, body text, and action button (CTA) text. This is the copy shown to customers in the storefront referral widget when they're invited to share — it's the words a customer sees before they decide to refer a friend.

Button colours. You set a primary and a secondary colour for the widget's Continue button. One thing worth flagging up front: these colours only apply to two of Soreto's four placements, not all four. The reasons are specific to how each placement is built, and are covered in full in Widgets & Placements (/help/shopify/widgets-and-placements/) — that article is the place to understand exactly which placements pick up your button colours and why the other two don't.

Campaign images. There are six image slots you can set:

  • Logo
  • Page favicon
  • Static referral page hero image
  • Landing page background
  • Thank-you page banner
  • Order status page background

Every one of these has a sensible default already applied, so you don't need to touch any of them to launch a working campaign. Upload an image only for the slots where you specifically want to replace the default with your own branding.

Order status and thank-you page overrides. By default, the widget copy you write above (title, body, CTA) is shared across all placements. If you want the order status page or the thank-you page specifically to show different text — for example, because the surrounding checkout context calls for slightly different wording — you can set a separate header, body, and CTA override for each of those two placements individually. This is optional; leave it alone if the shared copy works fine everywhere.

Live Preview. This step includes a Live Preview panel showing all four of Soreto's placements at once: the Floating widget, Inline card, Thank-you page, and Order status page. For the Floating widget and Inline card, it shows a genuine live/not-live check, plus a link to the relevant Theme Editor screen to fix it if it isn't. For the Thank-you page and Order status page, Shopify's own platform doesn't give this app a way to confirm whether the block has actually been added to your checkout — so instead of a status check, you'll see a direct link into Shopify's Checkout customization editor so you can confirm it yourself. This panel is a status check where one's possible, not a setup wizard in itself; for what each placement actually needs to go live, see Widgets & Placements (/help/shopify/widgets-and-placements/).

Launching. Once you're happy with your creative and the Live Preview panel reflects what you expect, launch the campaign. It starts showing to customers right away, regardless of the start date you set in Campaign Setup — see Campaign Schedule and "Forever" for why the schedule doesn't currently gate this.

Common questions

  • Can I go back and change Step 1 after reaching Step 2? Yes. The wizard's step indicator is clickable, so you can move back to Campaign Setup from Creative & Launch at any time. Moving forward again, though, still requires that Campaign Setup's required fields are complete — you can only advance once each step's own requirements are satisfied.
  • Do I need to fill in every image? No. Every image field already has a working default, so a campaign is fully functional without you uploading anything. Only override the specific images you want to customize with your own branding.
