Discount codes: single vs. rotating
Once you've decided what a reward is worth (the discount percentage), there's a second decision that matters just as much: how the discount code itself gets issued. Soreto supports two modes, and the one you pick changes how you should think about reward capacity, tracking, and what happens as referral volume grows.
Single (evergreen) code
In this mode, there's one discount code for the reward, and everyone who earns it uses that same code. It's simple: you set a code once, and it stays valid for as long as the reward is active. There's nothing to run out of, and nothing to configure beyond the code itself.
The tradeoff is that because the same code string is shared by everyone, you lose the ability to tell individual redemptions apart just by looking at the code — every referrer (or every friend) who redeems that reward's code is using the identical string.
Rotating batch pool
In this mode, instead of one code, Soreto creates a whole pool of unique, single-use discount codes upfront in Shopify, sized to a pool size you choose when you set up the reward — the idea being that each person who earns the reward is issued one of the pool's codes for their own use, rather than sharing a code with everyone else.
Where this stands today: issuing an individual code from that pool to a specific referrer or friend isn't fully wired up yet — the pool of codes is genuinely created in Shopify, but the step that hands a specific one of those codes to a specific person is still being built. If you need a reward that reliably reaches customers today, use a single (evergreen) code for now; we'll update this article once individual pool-code delivery is live.
Once that delivery is live, the appeal of this mode will be per-person tracking that a single evergreen code can't give you (each redemption tied to its own distinct code) — at the cost of a finite pool size, fixed when you set the reward up. If referral volume for that reward ever exceeds the pool size you configured, the pool would run out of codes to give out.
Both are real Shopify discounts
Whichever mode you choose, Soreto isn't inventing its own parallel discount system — both single codes and rotating pools are created as genuine discount codes through Shopify's own discount system, the same kind you'd see if you created a discount by hand in Shopify Admin. Soreto is automating the creation and management of Shopify discounts, not replacing them with something else.
Choosing per reward slot
This is a per-reward-slot decision, not a campaign-wide one. The referrer reward and the friend reward can each independently be set to single or rotating — you might, for example, run the referrer side on a simple evergreen code while giving the friend side a rotating pool for tighter tracking, or any other combination that suits your campaign. You choose the mode alongside the rest of the reward structure (percentage and code) in the campaign wizard's Campaign Setup step.
Common questions
- Which mode should I use? For a reward you need working today, use single (evergreen) — see the note above about rotating pools' individual-code delivery still being built. Once that's live, a rotating pool will suit merchants who specifically want per-person tracking and guaranteed single-use codes, in exchange for picking a realistic pool size up front.
- Can I resize a rotating pool after launch? No — there's currently no way to add more codes to a pool once it's created. If you switch a reward from rotating to evergreen (or the reverse) instead, that creates a new discount rather than resizing the existing one, and the old discount is left in place, unused, in your Shopify Admin.
